Firebreather

Firebreather is an app and IoT device that measures the capsaicin found in foods. This is then displayed to users in Scoville heat units. Scoville heat units (SHU) are the units that indicate how spicy a food is. Ranging from zero to two million, the SHU scale covers a broad spectrum of spiciness. The goal of Firebreather is to calculate users’ spice tolerance using the SHU scale. Once a tolerance is calculated, users have a variety of personalized options to choose from based on their goals. Features include guidance on increasing spice tolerance, searching for foods at specific restaurants, and sharing SHU information with other users

IOT scale page in the Firebreather app

The Scale page is where all the calculating of Scoville heat units is done. Users can then use the rating scale to record their perceived spice level.

The rating page is a gateway to multiple user pathways. Including creating a rating, searching for ratings, and looking for foods based on location.
