Gift Shop
Brief
This design project from my summer internship at Museums of the West provided the opportunity to design a line of stickers. The brief included creating a line of stickers and magnets to sell in the museum gift shops (Museum of the West, Dinosaur Journey, and Cross Orchards). These should be eye-catching, giftable, and align with the mission to inspire curiosity and connection through history, science, and heritage. The demographics include ages six through sixty-five, and they should be affordable, durable, and visually appealing as keepsakes and gifts.
Solution
With these goals in mind, I designed stickers and magnets that catered to each museum branch’s unique characteristics while maintaining the overall brand identity. I accomplished this through the use of colors, themes, and shape. For Dinosaur Journey I frequently used teal from the main brand colors, and stuck to the themes of dinosaurs, fossils, and archeology. Cross Orchards fit with the deep red shade (from brand colors) with themes of orchards, and fruit. Lastly Museums of the west has the rustic brown and emphasized western themes and history. In total there are eleven sticker and magnets, each branch has 2-3 specific stickers. The remaining are general stickers that combine each Museum branch into one.
Illustration Styles
To cater to the large demographic the stickers are split into two different styles. Some stickers are simplified vector illustrations with flat areas of color. Other stickers take a more realistic approach. For example the first Dinosaur Journey sticker is a simplified vector using the program Illustrator. The bear Museums of the West sticker (featured below this text) is a more realistic illustration. The programs Illustrator and Photoshop were the main creative cloud apps utilized.
